Luciana was raised to be a child in Rome with her grandparents. Luciana's father was Manlio Paoluzzi, an Italian army officer and her maternal grandmother was Maria Rota Paoluzzi who was once one of Benito Mussolini's mistresses. There are no known siblings. Luciana attended a local high school prior to matriculating at the Scientific Academy of Milan in 1955. Luciana was one of only two females in the class.
